There are just so many places to visit during your stay from the many local beaches, Country Houses, Gardens and Castles, Pretty Fishing Ports, Seaside Towns and Villages.

Sea and River Cruises, Fishing Trips, Steam Trains and Vintage Buses along with Country Drives, Walking and Cycling let you get out and about to explore the wonderful South Devon landscape.

Beaches

Teignmouth has its own traditional seaside family beach complete with pier and is among the most popular in the area. Dawlish Warren, a National nature Reserve famous for its bird-life and dunes; Blackpool Sands, pretty and secluded private beach and Slapton Sands huge beach also famous for its wildlife are just a few of the many worth exploring.

Boats & Trains

There are a whole range of boat trips, cruises and fishing trips available from Teignmouth and nearby Dawlish, Torquay and Brixham. Greenway Ferry provides a whole range of local cruises and also run a Vintage Bus Trip to Greenway House. Steams Trains are run by the South Devon Railway and the Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat.

Houses & Gardens

Devon has one of the largest choices of National Trust Houses and Gardens including Agatha Christies’ Greenway House, the beautiful Coleton Fishacre and Castle Drogo each with great gardens and country walks. Just up the coast is Powderham Castle combining Castle, Deer Park and Woodlands which also hosts many Concerts, Festivals and Events.

Local Places

There are plenty of interesting towns and villages to visit including local seaside resorts of Dawlish, Torquay and Paignton, each with its own charm. Pretty fishing ports like Brixham and delightful inland villages like Cockington are worth a visit. The cities of Exeter and Plymouth provide great shopping as well as their own culture and history.

Sports & Leisure

Teignmouth has its own Golf Course as well as an adventure golf pitch and putt style course. Then there’s Surfing, Kayaking, Canoeing, Sailing and plenty of private hire boats to keep you amused on the water. Nearby Newton Abbot provides National Hunt Horse Racing while there is Pony Trekking and Seaside Donkey Riding in a range of locations.

Theatres & Live Music

The area has a great range of local theatres and music venues. Theatres run from small local ones like Teignmouth’s Carlton Theatre and Toads to larger ones like the Princess Theatre in Torquay. Major outdoor music concerts are often held at Powderham Castle. Jazz and Folk festivals are held locally including Teignmouth Jazz Festival, Teignmouth Folk Festival and the Shaldon Music Festival.

Fairs & Festivals

Teignmouth Carnival is one of many local Carnivals held each year others include Dawlish Air Show in August, Shaldon Regatta and the Shaldon Water Carnival. The Devon County Show is the biggest local Countryside and Farming Show but one of many held locally. Fishstock is a local Fishing Festival held in Brixham. Widecombe Fair is probably the most famous of our many local town and village fairs. There’s always something going on.

Walking

The South West Coast Path is 630 miles of beautiful coastal scenery including our own local section which you can see here. It passes close by us here at Waterton. Dartmoor provides another spectacular range of walks and wonderful rugged countryside. The Dartmoor National Park is a great place to escape to for peace and fresh air – not to mention some good exercise and stunning scenery for all the family.
